14,600 km cycled for climate protection

The Climate Alliance’s “City Cycling” campaign in the Rengsdorf-Waldbreitbach administrative district came to a fitting conclusion with an awards ceremony held in front of Rengsdorf Town Hall. Mayor Pierre Fischer presented awards to the top three cyclists: “Our first participation in the campaign absolutely exceeded expectations! A total of 97 cyclists took part, logging 644 rides. A fantastic 14,600 km were covered in a climate-friendly way, avoiding over 2,000 kg of CO2 compared to equivalent car trips.”

The cyclists with the most kilometers received gift baskets from the Wiedtal Tourism Association, which also included free tickets to the Wiedtalbad and vouchers from Chaco GmbH in Dernbach and local restaurants. First place went to Florian Fischer from Waldbreitbach with 809 km, second place to Tamara Sabla from Team Wiedtalbad with 765 km, and third place to Silke Bendler from Waldbreitbach with 652 km.

Of the 12 registered teams, the group with the most kilometers was the team from the municipality and Tus Bonefeld, ahead of the St. Hubertus Schützen Niederbreitbach and the Wiedtal Tourism Association.

For the upcoming expansion of cycling infrastructure in the municipalities, City Cycling served as a fitting kickoff to raise greater awareness of the issue. At the VG Days, the Cycling Paths Working Group will engage with visitors to gather ideas and requests for future cycling paths.
