The VfL Waldbreitbach athletics department, together with FC Waldbreitbach (WFC), will be organizing a fun-filled, popular sporting event at the end of the Christmas Village season. All age groups can actively participate or watch others at the first Christmas tree throwing event on Saturday, January 28, 2023 in the Waldbreitbach Christmas Village.

VfL Waldbreitbach copied the idea of throwing the Christmas tree from FC Wacker Weidenthal in the Palatinate, which has been organizing a "Knutfest" for 20 years and has also hosted "world championships" several times. "In Waldbreitbach, however, the focus will not be on records, but rather on having fun during the triathlon," emphasizes initiator and managing director of VfL Waldbreitbach Josef Hoß.

The participants have to throw a 1.50 m spruce like a javelin, hurl it like a hammer and maneuver it over the bar on the pole vault. The individual scores are added together and whoever achieves the highest total is the winner. Children only do the long throw with a smaller tree. Participants are strongly advised to wear work gloves. "Apart from that, there are no special requirements for this competition," says Hoß. "The WFC's offer of mulled wine and mulled juice in the adjacent Sportlerheim will also ensure sociability - the only permitted 'doping agents'," assures Hoß.

The Christmas tree throwing will take place at the sports facilities on Jahnstraße in Waldbreitbach. The schedule for the three competitions is staggered according to age from 10:00 - 13:00. In addition to individual rankings, there is also a team ranking for adults. Certificates, medals and prizes will be awarded for the top 5 in each competition and trophies for the top 3 teams. The entry fee is 5 euros for adults, 3 euros for young people and 2 euros for children. Registrations are possible from now until January 21 at www.baumwerfen.de.online.
