2nd Christmas tree throwing in Waldbreitbach

A man is throwing a Christmas tree on a running track while several people in winter clothes watch. The tree is mid-air above his head, and the spectators stand on the track and grass in the background.

Flying spruces in the Christmas village

With the start of the Christmas village season, you can already register for the Christmas tree throwing event on the last Saturday in January. After the successful first event, VfL Waldbreitbach and FC Waldbreitbach would once again like to offer locals and guests a fun-filled, popular sporting event. At the end of the Christmas village season, the spruces will fly again in Waldbreitbach on 27.1.2024. Adults, young people and children can actively take part or watch and cheer on.

Christoph Klein from FC Waldbreitbach and world champion Margret Klein-Raber from Saarland were the overall winners of the first Christmas tree throwing competition. Among the children (U12), Nico Bathon (VfL Waldbreitbach) and Thea Hautkappe were at the top of the podium. Len Stiehler and Celina Medinger (both VfL Waldbreitbach) were the youngsters (U18) with the strongest throws.

The participants have to throw a 1.50-metre spruce like a javelin, hurl it like a hammer and manoeuvre it over the bar on the pole vault - they can set the starting height themselves. The individual values are added together. Whoever achieves the highest total is the winner. Children only do the long throw with a smaller tree. The focus is on having fun in this sporting competition. The Christmas tree throwing will take place from 11:00 a.m. at the sports facilities on Jahnstraße in Waldbreitbach. The schedule for the three competitions is staggered according to age.
