Over 100 trails applied to the hiking magazine to be voted "Germany's Most Beautiful Hiking Trail 2022", of which 10 multi-day and 15 day tours were nominated and put to the vote. The WesterwaldSteig was among the nominees and was voted into fifth place by a large number of hiking fans. The long-distance hiking trail, which runs for 235 kilometers and 16 stages from Herborn to Bad Hönningen, is not one of the Top Trails of Germany for nothing. The selection also shows that the twice-yearly inspection and maintenance by the numerous volunteer trail patrons pays off and is rewarded accordingly. The WesterwaldSteig is also on course for success in its 14th year of existence! 46,432 voters cast a total of 64,870 crosses in one or both categories. A new record and further fuel for the hiking trend!
The hiking trails were nominated by a professional jury, which this year consisted of Thorsten Hoyer (editor-in-chief of Wandermagazin), Michael Sänger (publisher of Wandermagazin), Manuel Andrack (Germany's "hiking champion") and SPIEGEL bestselling author and outdoor blogger Kathrin Heckmann aka "Fräulein Draußen". One expert from each federal state was also involved.
