As in previous years, the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park once again supported various measures in the municipality of Rengsdorf-Waldbreitbach in 2019 with funding from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Various topics relating to the nature park were financially supported.
The municipality of Waldbreitbach has erected a hiking board at the "Schäfers Kreuz" hiking parking lot with information on correct behavior in nature and coordinated the content with farmers and hunters. It asks for the support and consideration of walkers, cyclists and, above all, dog owners. Dogs should be kept on a lead and dog waste bags should be used and not thrown full into the meadows. The areas for animals and crops must be spared and left entirely to nature from the evening hours onwards. Mountain bikers may only ride on wider forest paths and roads that have been permanently created or are intended for forestry traffic. Riding on footpaths and trails or across forests is prohibited.
At the Wäller Tour Iserbachschleife in the area of the municipality of Thalhausen and on the B1 hiking trail in Breitscheid, benches have been set up to provide those seeking relaxation with a comfortable rest in an exposed location. In Oberraden, three new loungers have been installed, offering great views of the Aubachtal and Urbachtal valleys and over the village.
"In addition to the certified hiking trails, we also want to further enhance the local trails. We are noticing the trend towards leisure activities at home very strongly right now. In the first four months of the year, twice as many people were out and about on the Iserbach loop as in previous years," says Florian Fark from the Wiedtal Tourism Association.
The municipality of Bonefeld has further enhanced the site at the Celtic burial mound with a bench and a very clearly illustrated information board. The result is an exciting and relaxing resting place on the popular "Butterpfad" hiking trail.
Financial support for the pruning of orchard meadows and the fencing and clearing of stream valleys has made an important contribution to biotope conservation. The provision of seed for bee meadows was also accepted by many local communities, which are now working to create flowering meadows in the Rengsdorf-Waldbreitbach district on a sustainable basis.
