Press Trip to the Wiedtal: Nature, Culinary Delights, and Regional Diversity

From August 13 to 15, a three-day press tour brought five journalists to the Wied Valley. At the invitation of Rheinland-Pfalz Tourismus GmbH and the Westerwald Touristik-Service, the participants gained a wide range of insights into the region’s tourism offerings—from diverse hiking trails to regional specialties and sustainable adventure activities.

To kick things off, the journalists were welcomed at the Malberghütte and got into the spirit of the trip with a group lunch. Afterward, Florian Fark from the Wiedtal Tourism Association presented the new gravel bike tours. A special nature experience was the hike along the 16th stage of the WesterwaldSteig, passing the “Drei-Klöster-Blick” viewpoint. During dinner at the Hotel zur Post, Jörg Hohenadl introduced the regional brand “Naturgenuss Rhein-Westerwald.”

On the second day, the Wäller Tour Bärenkopp was on the agenda. The hike began with a visit to the tourist information office and led past the White Cross to the Bärenkopp. A drink break at Paganettis provided a welcome refreshment. After lunch at the Klosterbergterrassen restaurant, participants went on a herb walk through the monastery garden and toured the Waldbreitbach monastery complex.

Another highlight was the visit to the Heinrichshof, an organic farm with its own on-site cheese dairy in Burglahr. Here, participants were able to experience regional agriculture firsthand and learn about the production and quality of local products. A group dinner at Nassen’s Mühle rounded out the day.

To conclude the press trip, the itinerary included another Westerwald culinary experience: a tour of the Hachenburg Brewery. The entire trip impressively demonstrated just how diverse the Westerwald is as a travel destination: nature experiences and hiking are combined with regional culinary delights, sustainable offerings, culture, and authentic encounters.
