Refill Deutschland is a simple idea with a big impact: Businesses with the Refill sticker offer free tap water for any reusable drinking container you bring with you. The goal is to actively help reduce plastic waste and raise awareness about the problems caused by the wasteful use of resources due to plastic. There are currently over 8,000 Refill stations nationwide, coordinated by the nonprofit organization a tip: tap e.V.
In the Wiedtal and Rengsdorfer Land regions, no fewer than 10 tourism partners have joined the project. And more are welcome at any time. As a certified Sustainable Travel Destination, the Westerwald is actively committed to protecting and preserving its unique natural environment. Participants include the Tourist Information Office in Waldbreitbach; Nassens Mühle, Hotel zur Post, and Camping Wiedhof; Malberg-Hütte in Hausen; Lacher Stall in Roßbach; Deichwiesenhof in Bonefeld; Waldterrasse and Haus der Stille in Rengsdorf; and Thalhauser Mühle in Thalhausen.
In light of the increasing number of hot days, the tourism industry is also facing growing challenges. To effectively combat the heat while also protecting the environment and the climate, many members of the Wiedtal Tourism Association immediately joined the initiative. Managing Director Floian Fark comments: “Free drinking water is a simple and effective way to help, especially for people who are active outdoors. At participating businesses, tourists and locals alike can simply ask to have their own water bottles filled with tap water. Of course, this applies only to water taken away and not for consumption on-site.”
