Small Wäller - big enjoyment: new walking trails in the Westerwald

A scenic landscape of green fields and trees under a blue sky promotes walking trails in Westerwald, Germany. The text highlights Kleiner Wäller, großer Genuss and features the Kleiner Wäller logo.

The Westerwald now has walking (hiking) trails for people who like to stroll and tackle less long tours: the "Kleine Wäller". All ten tours have been uniformly marked and an attractive information board and signposts have been set up at the starting point. The "Kleine Wäller" are suitable for those who want to enjoy a relaxing walk without any special preparation or equipment, but also for occasional hikers who enjoy short tours.

"The walking trails are short tours for everyone," emphasizes Katrin Cramer, hiking project manager at Westerwald Touristik-Service. They often pass through cozy villages and beautiful nature and invite you to enjoy and take a deep breath. The walking trails are a little longer. You move more and walk for between one and three hours.

Ten Kleine Wäller in four regions of the Westerwald are waiting to be discovered:

Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park:

- The Kleine Wäller "Häubchen-Tour" (5.5 km) offers an exciting tour through woods and fields - including to the Roßbacher Häubchen.
- The Kleine Wäller "Wied-Runde" is a nice little circular tour for in between: 3 km through the village of Waldbreitbach and along the Wied.
- Not only dwarves love the 4.5 km long Kleine Wäller "Zwergenweg" near Rengsdorf, where there are caves to marvel at and natural beauty to enjoy.

Westerwald region / Sieg nature region (from fall 2020):

- The Kleine Wäller "Path of the Senses" challenges the senses over 2.3 km and lets you experience the wonderful nature around Werkhausen.
- The 4.6 km Kleine Wäller "Legend Trail" follows in the footsteps of Boller Mosch, the white woman and the old Mehren Castle.

Hoher Westerwald / Wäller Land:

- On the varied Kleiner Wäller "Wolfsteine" tour, numerous basalt formations and the Bad Marienberg wildlife park impress over 7.2 km.
- The name says it all. The Kleine Wäller "Wiesensee" leads 6.4 km around the Wiesensee with great lake views and lots of nature.

Hessian Westerwald:

- On the Kleine Wäller "Hessentagswanderweg", the picturesque old town, the observation tower and the game reserve beckon and it goes for 5 km through and around Herborn.
- The Kleine Wäller "Basalt + Water" trail starts at the Ulmbach dam and runs for 7.6 km through forest and BASALT-PARKours past various basalt structures.
- The Kleine Wäller "Art + Nature" trail takes you 5 km to discover the beauty of nature and the Siegfried Fietz sculpture park.

Further "Kleine Wäller" trails are being planned and will be completed by 2021. The free brochure with the "Kleine Wällers" can now be ordered or picked up at the tourist information offices. All tours can also be found online at www.westerwald.info and in the Rhineland-Palatinate tour planner.
