The idyllic village of Waldbreitbach in the Wiedtal valley has been transformed into the Waldbreitbach Christmas Village for over 35 years. This is not a fenced-in market square or a village of huts, but the entire town itself is decorated with Christmas attractions and numerous nativity scenes.
From November 29, 2025 to January 25, 2026, it will be atmospheric when everything shines in golden splendor. The special feature of the Waldbreitbach Christmas Village is that all the attractions are spread out in the open air throughout the village. They all remain set up until the last Sunday in January, can be visited daily and admission is free.
To celebrate the opening, a torchlight procession through the village will take place on Friday, November 28 at 6:00 pm, during which all the attractions will be illuminated for the first time this season. The Wiedklang music society accompanies the procession and also plays at the end at the craft museum, where there is mulled wine and Döppe cake.
The highlights in the village are the large natural nativity scene in the Maria Himmelfahrt parish church, the new Advent calendar house with international Christmas scenes, the "Star of Bethlehem" - a walking trail with 3,500 light bulbs and over 20 nativity scenes, the floating nativity scene and floating Advent wreath on the Wied, the life-size figures from the Erzgebirge on the church steps, which have been given a brand new coat of paint, the open-air nativity scene and the candle arch nativity scene. The Christmas illumination on the 18 m high guild tree with a diameter of 6 m and almost 10,000 LEDs providesagolden sparkle in the village center.
Open again: Gustel's Nativity Scene and Bible World with over 2,500 nativity scenes from all over the world on 800 m² of exhibition space. Nativity scenes from almost all European countries as well as exotic nativity scenes from Africa, Alaska, Russia, China and Peru can be admired.
Over 80 stations light up the "Nativity Scene Trail", which runs for 2 km along the banks of the River Wied and through the town. This also includes lovingly designed small nativity scenes in stores and private gardens. Open tours take place on Saturdays and Sundays, group tours can be booked at any time.
Tickets for the large raffle with over 200 instant prizes with a total value of around €6,000 are available in the village. You will be informed of your prize immediately, which can be collected from the Hotel zur Post. The main prizes are overnight stays in the partner hotels or a hot air balloon ride.
