At the general meeting of the Touristik-Verband Wiedtal e.V. at the WesterwaldTreff in Oberlahr, the participants looked back on a successful year. The 1st Chairman, Mayor Hans-Werner Breithausen, reported that the association now has 121 members. This includes Tanja Ehlscheid-Schelzke's extremely professionally managed hotel, which has been a member of the Wiedtal for many years, even though the business is located outside the VG borders. Breithausen thanked the departing board members Martin Lerbs, Christian Robenek and Achim Schmidt for their many years of support.
Christian Dübner, Tourism Officer at the IHK Koblenz, then announced the latest information for the hospitality and tourism industry. From the IHK tourism committee and state-wide position papers to very specific practical assistance for the industry, the IHK provides a lot of good support for tourism. Florian Fark, Managing Director of the tourism association, presented the annual financial statements and gave a review of the past financial year. There was a slight decrease of 3.5 % in the number of overnight stays, but with a total of 148,220 overnight stays, the Rengsdorf-Waldbreitbach VG in the Westerwald is still in second place behind the city of Montabaur.
The tourist information office in Waldbreitbach recorded a constant number of visitors and brochure inquiries. The data quality in the digital systems Deskline and Outdooractive has been further improved and a new website will soon be published on this basis. The Westerwald-Wiedtal hot air balloon is in use throughout Europe, but could also be admired at Wied in Flames and in the Christmas Village. This was followed by a press and advertising review.
In the current year, the association is focusing primarily on the topic of cycling. New cycle paths are to be signposted in the VG, eBike rental has already started and some gravel bike routes will also be offered soon.
