The ski slope on the Malberg in Hausen/Wied was opened almost 60 years ago, on Boxing Day 1964. Back then, there was a small branch of Sporthaus Henrich from Neuwied-Niederbieber in the area of the slope on Malberg. Skis were repaired, waxed, rented and sold there.
The former ski and repair shop lay dormant for many years. Over the last few months, it has now been stripped bare, polished up and furnished with historical attributes. Marlies and Karl Ferdinand Engels played a leading role in this work. They received support from the local community and the community worker Christoph Over.
A small ceremony was held on October 18, to which the local community invited all the helpers, the local council and the donors of old ski equipment. Local mayor Carmen Boden thanked everyone for their great voluntary work for the benefit of the community. Hausen is now one tourist attraction richer. In addition to the former manager's hut below the Malberg hut, which was converted into a mini-museum in 2022 as part of a Leader citizens' project, this, together with the basalt nature trail, the small Wäller MalbergSeeBlick forest swing, information boards on the former ski operation and the viewpoint at the summit cross, forms a tourist highlight that is well worth seeing.
Following the words of welcome, the local community invited guests to enjoy mulled wine, cold drinks and "hut delicacies" from the Malberghütte kitchen.
