In the Westerwald, the bark beetle has recently struck devastatingly. Complete stands of spruce have often been destroyed, particularly in dry and warm locations. To prevent the beetles from spreading further, the spruce trees must be felled and removed as quickly as possible. In some cases, forest roads are closed and inaccessible for several days due to the associated logging or a corresponding detour is signposted on site. Information about which paths are affected is often not available to local authorities in good time. Cyclists and hikers must therefore currently expect trail closures in many places.
Cyclists and hikers can also find known closures and detour under the respective tour in the tour planner in the route overview.
