New brochure invites you to make exciting church discoveries

Three men stand on grass in front of a building holding a large sign that reads Natürlich Rhein Westerwald with a photo of a scenic landscape and a stone building. The building behind them has a green door and arched windows.

"Naturally Rhine-Westerwald - churches, monasteries and chapels". The 64-page publication presents 26 churches, monasteries and chapels, as well as a special historic cemetery in the Neuwied district, and contains interesting stories about their origins and building history, as well as further information that invites you to visit, take a guided tour or attend a church service. Without question, there are considerably more than 26 sacred buildings in the region that are of particular interest in terms of art history and architectural history. However, the selected churches, monasteries and chapels undoubtedly offer a multifaceted selection of interesting places of Christian faith that are worth discovering.

The roots of many ecclesiastical buildings in the district go back to the early Middle Ages, tell of both peaceful and turbulent times, and have repeatedly experienced change and new beginnings. However, they also reflect artistic understanding, craftsmanship, faith and trust in God in the context of history. It fits into the overall context that monastic communities, such as the Waldbreitbach Franciscan Sisters, the religious communities of the Sisters of St. John the Queen and the Missionaries of St. John the Baptist or the Franciscan Brothers of the Holy Cross in Hausen, were also founded in the district of Neuwied.

Most of the church buildings are located on cycle and hiking trails, making them ideal for hiking tours with added value.
