The Westerwald has one more "Kleiner Wäller" walking trail. The 3 km "MalbergSeeBlick" circular trail in Hausen an der Wied opens on Sunday, 18.9.2022, making it the 17th trail under this brand in the region.
The tour with an elevation gain of only around 50 meters offers views of the Wiedtal monastery landscape and the heights of the Rengsdorf region. The educational section on basalt mining, including a view of the Malbergsee lake and the basalt cliffs, was also included in the planning by the local community of Hausen and mayor Carmen Boden.
The route begins on wide forest paths through the wooded area of the town of Bad Hönningen. Projects and information on reforestation can be seen on both sides of the path, accompanied by new views of the Rhine Valley. Halfway along the trail, a shorter loop can be taken via the forest path back to the parking lot, which is also barrier-free. The actual route follows a meadow path towards the valley. Here you can enjoy the view of the monastery landscape of the Wiedtal valley and the heights of the Rengsdorfer Land. The Georg mine can be seen on the horizon. On the basalt nature trail, we recommend a detour to the viewing plateau with its sunbathing swing. The trail continues to the Malberg hut and along the crater rim back to the starting point, the free hiking parking lot in 53547 Hausen / Wied, Hähnen district.
