The Wiedweg was newly marked and labeled

Logo with the word WIEDWEG at the top left. Below is a stylized blue W that curves to form a path over light blue hills, all inside a blue border on a white background.

Just in time for the 2022 hiking season, the Wiedweg was awarded the "Wanderbares Deutschland Quality Trail" label by the German Hiking Association. For the first time since 2016, when the seal expired.

The Wied, the longest river in the Westerwald, gives its name to the 110 km stage trail. The starting point is the source of the Wied near Linden on the Westerwald lake district. From here, the route leads over and along the sometimes calm, sometimes lively Wied in a varied and exciting way. All the way to the finish in Neuwied on the Rhine. Charming views and unspoiled nature are guaranteed. Thanks to an optimized route, hikers are now guided through the beauty of the Westerwald as close to nature and water as possible.

In 2021, the markings were completely revised by the Westerwald-Verein in cooperation with the municipalities of Hachenburg, Altenkirchen-Flammersfeld, Puderbach, Asbach, Rengsdorf-Waldbreitbach and the town of Neuwied. Because the old green signposts were often confused with the WesterwaldSteig markings, the new blue W on a white background was agreed upon. The long-distance hiking trail is divided into 7 stages. Stage descriptions, maps and GPX tracks can be downloaded directly to your cell phone via the Rhineland-Palatinate tour app.
