"Tourism is a plus for everyone" campaign launched

Tourism in Rhineland-Palatinate is not only a source of recreation and leisure activities, but also a key economic and location factor that drives the state forward. Tourism is more than just a vacation - it is a dynamic economic sector that creates jobs, supports local businesses and promotes regional development. Overnight guests in Rhineland-Palatinate spend an average of 22.5 million euros every day. Many sectors benefit from this: Not only hotels and restaurants, but also other companies from the retail, service, trade and agricultural sectors benefit from the number of guests.

Tourism is also an important employer. In Rhineland-Palatinate, 150,000 jobs are dependent on tourism. And unlike many other sectors, these jobs cannot be relocated abroad. Tourism is therefore a real plus for the federal state.

"This year, we want to address and inform local politicians in particular so that they recognize the great opportunities that tourism offers as a cross-sector industry for local authorities. After all, they are key decision-makers when it comes to implementing tourism plans and tourism development projects. Tourism helps to keep communities vital on many levels by contributing to the maintenance of many offers, such as swimming pools, museums, parks or hiking trails. The locals also benefit from this." Gabriele Flach, Chairwoman of the Tourism and Spas Association, is convinced.

The offers created by tourism are not only popular with guests but also with the local population and are used in a variety of ways. The now more than 6,000 kilometers of certified hiking trails, with highlights such as the Rheinsteig, Eifelsteig or Traumpfaden, are used by many Rhineland-Palatinate residents for excursions and local recreation. In many places, facilities such as swimming pools and spas or a wide range of gastronomic offerings are also made possible by tourism - and are popular with the population.

The "Tourism is a plus for everyone" campaign aims to raise awareness of these positive aspects of tourism and the fact that people travel from afar to admire the "golden qualities" of Rhineland-Palatinate. With their attitude and approach to tourism, locals influence the success of local tourism development by shaping the travel experience through their interaction with guests. This makes them ambassadors for their own city or region.
