Westerwald tourism at a high level - overnight stays stable in 2024

A winding road curves through lush green hills and fields, dotted with trees and surrounded by forested areas under a blue sky with wispy clouds. Scattered houses are visible in the distance.

The number of overnight stays in the Westerwald remained at a stable high level in 2024. With over 1.3 million overnight stays, the region remains an attractive travel destination (+0.3 %). The number of arrivals also rose slightly to just over 500,000 (+1.0%), while the average length of stay remained constant at 2.6 days. The municipalities of Montabaur (155,541), Rengsdorf-Waldbreitbach (148,532) and Rennerod (139,886) recorded particularly high numbers of overnight stays.

"We see the figures as a sign of continued strong demand for nature-oriented vacation experiences in the Westerwald. However, the importance of tourism goes far beyond just the number of overnight stays: without it, many leisure activities, cycling and hiking trails or cultural events would not exist in this form - they not only benefit guests, but also the local population," explains Maja Büttner, Managing Director of Westerwald Touristik-Service.

Tourism also plays a key role from an economic perspective. "Tourism is an important economic factor in the Westerwald. In addition to the direct effects of overnight stays and gastronomy, a wide range of industries benefit - from retail to crafts to regional producers. The stable number of overnight stays is therefore an important signal for the entire economy of the region," adds Christian Dübner, Tourism Officer at the Koblenz Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

The Westerwald Tourism Service will continue to consistently implement the 2024+ tourism strategy in order to further strengthen the region as a sustainable and future-proof destination. The focus will be on optimizing existing tourism offers, digitalizing guest communication and expanding regional experiences.
